MALAY LANGUAGE
The main objective of the Malay Language Department is to instill creativity and confidence among the students by means of effective classroom engagement so as to facilitate them being effective learners and confident users of the language. In addition, with the introduction of the current Malay Language Syllabus, CEKAP, the department also aims at developing one’s interactive and communication skills to inspire confidence amongst the students.
Signature Programmes:
Mother Tongue Fortnight (Malay)
The Mother Tongue Fortnight is a two-week long enrichment programme that is specifically aimed at promoting as well as exposing the students to the various aspects of the Malay Culture. Through various activities such as the wayang kulit, makan berdulang, kuih ondeh-ondeh making, as well as learning the renowned Malay martial arts, Silat, students were actively engaged throughout this period.
Speech & Drama
The aim of this programme is to develop students’ abilities and confidence in oral communications through fun and creative activities. Students will be involved in activities which reinforce the skills of speaking clearly, audibly and expressively. The programme will conclude with short performances by the students.
Hari Raya Concert
An annual event, the Hari Raya Concert showcased various acts and performances by both students and teachers alike as we usher in the most celebrated event of the Malay community. Performances such as the Dikir Barat, playing the traditional Malay Kompang and the Malay Dance were all part of the itinerary that entertained the rest of the students and staff on the day.
Reading Programme
The objective of this programme is to enhance the students’ capacity in the overall command of the Malay Language. For a start, the students have been using an interactive Malay Language magazine, Mari Membaca which has a variety of engaging exercises and worksheets, all of which are useful continuum to the daily classroom teaching and activities.
